Yuan Huiren 袁惠仁

Professor Yuan Huiren passed away peacefully in the Ascension St. Agnes Hospital of Baltimore at 5:15 a.m. on Sunday, March 19, 2023.  He was 88.

Professor Yuan was born in 1935, in Leyu Town, Zhangjiagang City, Jiangsu Province, China.  A member of Jiusan Society, he graduated from the Radiology Department of Nanjing Institute of Technology (now Southeast University) in 1960.  He successively served as a Professor of the Department of Astronomy of Nanjing University, a Professor of the Department of Electronic Engineering of Nanjing University and the director of the laboratory.  In addition to teaching, Professor Yuan also presided over and completed the debugging and measurement of the antenna of the Fengyun-1 Meteorological Satellite Earth Station, and the system debugging and measurement of the 20-meter antenna of the Fengyun-2 Meteorological Satellite Earth Station, two national 85 Project key projects.  He authored "Radio Astronomical Measurement of Antenna Parameters", which has become a breakthrough academic monograph in this field so far.  He also published more than 80 papers in domestic and foreign journals and was a key speaker at many domestic and international academic conferences.

Based on Professor Yuan's outstanding academic performance, he won the second prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1986.  In 1989, he won the second prize of Science and Technology Progress Award from the State Education Commission.  In 1985 and 1994, he won the third prize of the Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award. Since 1993, he has received special compensation from the State Department of China because of his distinguished contribution to the scientific community.

Professor Yuan is a scholar; a sincere, honest, and kind soul; and is deeply loved and respected by his teachers and students.  He was talented in sports and was the captain of his College Basketball team.  He also excelled in the long jump and shot put for his college Track & Field team. 

Professor Yuan loved the United States.  After he immigrated in 2014, he enjoyed spending heavenly time with his only granddaughter, Clara.  He often talked about how happy he was to be a part of Magothy United Methodist Church of Pasadena, Maryland.  He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Professor Lu Wei; 2 daughters, Lu Lan and Yuan Guan, his son-in-law Martin P. Brooks; and his beloved granddaughter, Clara Lu Brooks.  He is preceded in death by parents Yuan Jizhou and Zhu Yubao

A Memorial Service to celebrate Professor Yuan's life will be held at 12:00 pm, on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Magothy United Methodist Church, followed by a reception in Magothy’s Fellowship Hall.  The Reverend Fred R. Brooks, Jr., will officiate the service of worship.   Flowers may be sent to Magothy United Methodist Church, 3703 Mountain Road, Pasadena, MD 21122.

著名天线测量专家，袁惠仁教授于2023年3月19 日5时因病在美国安详辞世。享年88岁。

袁惠仁教授，1935年9月1 5日生于中国江苏省张家港市乐余镇。九三学社社员。继1 960年毕业于南京工学院（今东南大学）无线电系后，曾先后任南京大学天文系教授，南京大学电子工程系教授及实验室主任。除教学以外，袁惠仁教授还主持并完成风云一号气象卫星地球站天线的调试和测量，风云二号气象卫星地球站20米天线的系统调试和测量两项国家八五重点项目。出版《天线参数的射电天文测量》，成为迄今这一领域的突破性学术专著。在国内外杂志和国内国际性学术会议发表论文80余篇。

基于袁教授在学术上卓越的表现，1 986年获中科院科技进步二等奖。1989年获国家教委科技进步二等奖。1985年和1994年分获省科技进步三等奖。1993年起享受国务院颁发的政府特殊津贴。

袁教授治学严谨，待人真诚，正直善良，深受广大师生的爱戴和尊重。

遵照逝者遗愿，丧事从简。于美国当地时间2023 年4月1 5日中午1 2点举办“庆祝袁惠仁教授一生追思会“活动。
