William "Bill" Tiernan Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of William Tiernan, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who departed this world peacefully on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at the age of 99. A resident of Pasadena, Maryland for over 75 years, William was known and cherished by many within the community.

Born on April 4, 1926, in Sleaford, England, William emigrated to the United States, making his lifelong home in Pasadena. His legacy is marked by his dedication to his family, his heroic military service during WWII in the British Royal Merchant Navy and later under the US Coast Guard during Operation Desert Storm, and his remarkable career in shipbuilding.

William embarked on a successful career with Bethlehem Steel. Driven by passion and determination, he and his son Barry purchased the marine construction company, C.A. Norris, Inc., in 1978, where he worked diligently until his retirement at age 90.

William was a proud member of several organizations that reflected his values and passions, including the VFW in Ocala, FL, American Legion Post #40 in Glen Burnie, MD, The Moose, and Ravens Roost #75. He was also a past member of the Sand Pipers Club. In his free time, he enjoyed playing pool, boating, and fishing—activities he relished with family and friends.

William was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Tiernan, his son J. Barry Tiernan, his daughter Mary C. Tiernan-Snyder, his brother John Tiernan, and his sister Mary Thornton and her husband Derrick. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon Tiernan, his son William P. Tiernan and his wife Patricia, his daughter Terry Brumwell Tobin and her husband Bill, his step-son Dean Scheffers, his step-daughter Tammy Scheffers, his step-son Kirk Moyer, his son-in-law Richard Snyder, and his sister-in-law Connie Tiernan. He also leaves behind a cherished legacy of 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren who will remember him fondly as a pillar of strength and an example of kindness.

Family, friends, and those whose lives William touched are invited to pay their respects at Stallings Funeral Home in Pasadena, Maryland. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm and again from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The funeral service will begin at 7:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations in William's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, commemorating his life and ongoing commitment to giving back.

William will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his spirit and legacy will continue to inspire those who loved him. May he rest in eternal peace.
