William Murphy, Jr. Obituary

William Francis Murphy Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on Saturday, August 9th, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on Tuesday, March 28th, 1944, in Baltimore, Maryland, Bill lived a fulfilling life centered around family, work, and a host of cherished pastimes.

Bill dedicated four decades of his life to his career as a refrigeration technician with Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE), where his work was admired by colleagues and customers alike. He was known not only for his technical skills but also for his quick wit and humor, often leaving others with a smile through his legendary comebacks and entertaining stories. A true family man, Bill always emphasized the importance of togetherness, ensuring that family times were filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

Survived by his beloved wife, Linda Lou Murphy, with whom he just celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary, Bill leaves behind a legacy of love and commitment. He is also survived by his loving daughters, Robin Bowers (Kenneth) and Vicki Murphy (William Beznoska), and a cherished sister, Marion Murphy. Fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Nicholas William Bowers and Linsay Kline (Charles), Bill was a guiding light in their lives, taking particular joy in helping them with history, his favorite subject.

He will also be dearly missed by his loyal companions, Reese, Lilo, Stitch, Nora, and Noel. Preceded in death by his parents, William Francis Murphy Sr. and Marion Murphy, as well as his beloved dogs Neko, Codie, Nemo, Eclair, Candi, and Brownie, Bill’s legacy will endure in the hearts and minds of those who loved him.

Bill’s life was filled with simple joys and great passions. Whether crabbing off the pier at his home, tinkering with family cars, or embarking on adventures to Disney World, Williamsburg and Ocean City, he embraced life fully. Renowned for his love of history, Bill was often relied upon for his encyclopedic knowledge or at least a good story. He was an avid Orioles fan, particularly when the team was on a winning streak, and he proudly displayed plaques honoring his sports heroes, Johnny Unitas and Brooks Robinson.

An extraordinary handyman, Bill could fix anything, embodying the spirit of resourcefulness and generosity. His talents extended beyond mechanics, as he played the accordion and built intricate models of historical ships like the USS Arizona. Each Christmas, he delighted family and friends with a meticulously crafted Disney train garden. Bill possessed a unique gift for finding joy in every moment, always ready to share a laugh and ensure that those around him had a good time.
