William R. Long, 77, a resident of Maryland for 59 years and formerly of West Virginia, passed away Friday, August 11, 2023.
Mr. Long was born January 16, 1946 in Elkins, WV to the late Cooper and Betty Long. At a young age, Cooper and Betty separated and Betty Married Richard Bennett (Peewee) and William was lucky enough to gain a stepfather who loved him as if he was his own. With Peewee he gained several Uncles / Aunts and Cousins and continued his ties to West Virginia. He served honorably in the US Army. He went on to work for various car dealer ships as a Comptroller or General Manager. Later, he worked as the CFO for BG Products until his retirement after 15 years of service. In his free time, Mr. Long enjoyed hunting and fishing. His family described him as a "workaholic" who considered 40 hours a week as being part time. He loved to crack jokes with his grandchildren and was quick witted. He liked to spend "Porch Time" on his trips to West Virginia, which he frequented often. Above all else, Mr. Long loved his family and spending time with them.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Long is preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle Kristin Hipple, granddaughter, Jenica and siblings, Ronald Long and Stacy Buck. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Judy Long; son, Brian Long and his wife Whitney; siblings, Eddie Dove and Jean Churn; grandchildren, Kevin, Eric, Andrew, Scott and Trent.
