Thomas "TW" O. Ward, 77, a lifelong resident of Anne Arundel County, MD, died on May 20, 2021 at the Baltimore Washington Medical Center.
Mr. Ward was born on June 21, 1943 in Anne Arundel County, MD to the late Thomas and Elma Ward. He started his racing career in the 1960s, but put things on hold to serve in the Army during the Vietnam War. After returning from his time in the service, TW owned and operated various automotive and marine companies, including TW Automotive Engineering on Route 3, which sponsored the boats and cars that he raced during the 1970s and 1980s. Later in life, he worked as a mobile marine mechanic. Outside of work and racing, he also enjoyed cooking, especially seafood - a passion he learned from helping his parents run their diner, Pine Grove.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Ward is preceded in death by his sister, Doloris Stevens. He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Shirley Ward; son, Thomas A. (Laura) Ward; daughters, Christina L. Ward, Sheryl L. (JR) Smith, Bobbi L. Wallace, and Rebecca M. (Paul) Vacek; 10 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in the Fall. Interment private.
