Susanne "Susie" McFarland Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Susanne "Susie" Elizabeth McFarland, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and cherished friend to all who knew her. Susie passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 29, 2025, in her home in Pasadena, Maryland, at the age of 67.

Born on August 3, 1958, in Brooklyn Park, Maryland, Susie was the dearly loved daughter of the late Victor and Patricia Serra. Raised in a nurturing and warm household, Susie carried the love and values instilled by her parents throughout her life.

As a devoted homemaker, Susie committed her life to nurturing her family and creating a home filled with love and laughter. She was the cherished wife of James McFarland, with whom she shared many joyful years of marriage filled with enduring love and companionship. Susie was preceded in death by her first husband, Wayne Brown, with whom she shared a beautiful life, and her sister, Linda Shearer.

She leaves behind her adored children, Adam Brown and his partner Banji, and Sara Saunders with her husband Rudy, who all inherited Susie's creative spirit and zest for life. Her legacy continues in her treasured granddaughter, Amy Saunders, who brought immense joy to Susie's life.

Susie is also survived by her loving sisters, Diane Moore and husband John, as well as Christine Knicely and partner Rich, who remained a close friend and confidant throughout her life. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who remained close throughout her life.

Susie-Vila, with her ever-creative spirit, explored various trades and crafts artistically. Despite her diverse interests, she remained a friend to everyone she met. Her kindness extended beyond her immediate family as she played a motherly role to her children's friends, ensuring everyone felt included and loved.

A lover of nature and the outdoors, Susie found joy in working outside, tending to her Koi pond, and indulging in activities like gardening, where her creativity flourished. She had an adventurous side as well, enjoying trips to the casino where she relished playing slots.

In remembering Susie, we celebrate a life filled with warmth, creativity, generosity, and an unyielding love for those around her. Her gentle spirit and kindness have left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Friends and family may visit on Friday, December 5th from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm at Stallings Funeral Home, 3111 Mountain Road, Pasadena, MD 21122, where a service will take place on Saturday, December 6th at 11:00 am.
