Sandra Lee Coates, 72, a 26 year resident of the Anne Arundel area and formerly of Baltimore, passed away Friday, May 1, 2020 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center.
Mrs. Coates was born February 9, 1948 in Shenandoah Junction, WV to the late Alton and Ella Fraley. She worked as an Administrator for the University of Maryland for over 20 years until her retirement. She was a devoted Christian who taught Kindergarten at the Christian Learning Academy. She was a member of the Community Gospel Church of Pasadena where she ran the children's Church for over 20 years. She loved taking trips with the women's group to minister at the local women's prison where she would help those in need get their lives on track. Mrs. Coates also volunteered at food drives and helped children in psychological distress live a healthier and happier lives. In her spare time, Mrs. Coates enjoyed baking, crocheting and tailoring different items for her family such as curtains, chair coverings, and blankets. Above all, she was a dedicated mother who enjoyed spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Coates is preceded in death by her brother, Harry J. Fraley. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Edwin A. Coates, son and daughter in law (whom she often referred to as her daughter), Troy and Judy Coates, grandchildren Nicholas Minghini, Kristi Schuman, great grandchildren Katelyn, Madison, and Isabella.
