Sally Wood Obituary

In Loving Memory of Sally Caldwell Wood

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sally Caldwell Wood, a cherished soul whose life was marked by love, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to those she held dear. At age 91, Sally departed this life peacefully on June 13, 2025, leaving behind a legacy that will endure in the hearts of all who knew her.

Sally was born on March 4, 1934 in Crumpler, NC to Willie and Pearl Caldwell who preceded her in death.  She is survived by her daughter Heidi Taylor Hawkins (Mark) and granddaughter Jillian Taylor (fiancé Colton Bare) and bonus granddaughter Anna Casselberry .    Sally is the 4th of her parents’ 8 children and is survived by one brother, Gary Caldwell (Mary Ann) of Ponchatoula, LA as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  Sally is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Wood, her parents, and siblings Nell Pollard, Mae Pugh, Tom Caldwell, Herb Caldwell, Ray Caldwell, and Janet Gomez.

Sally grew up in Ashe County, NC in addition to several years in Baltimore, before making her home in Harford County, MD.  Never one to sit still for long, Sally developed impressive skills in the art of homemaking – from cooking to sewing, decorating to gardening – she could do it all.  Well-known for her hospitality, she enjoyed hosting family, friends and special guests.  She also served in many ways at her church, wherever there was a need.  Sally left an indelible mark on every endeavor she undertook, earning the respect and admiration of all who knew her.

After several years in banking, Sally worked as an Accounting Technician at Aberdeen Proving Ground, until retiring in 1993.  She was fortunate to have a full life beyond retirement.  With her husband Jimmie, she restored her family’s homeplace in Crumpler and they traveled frequently between MD and NC enjoying time with family in both places.  For the past 20 years, Sally enjoyed an active life in Pasadena, MD where she loved being close to her family.  She was thrilled to be a daily part of her granddaughter’s life – driving her to dance, cooking together, sewing and teaching her many life lessons along the way.  They had many cherished memories together.  Sally’s friends remember her fun spirit while at the Senior Center, Friday bingo at the VFW, and on day trip adventures.

With her sweet Southern accent, Sally will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and for going out of her way to make others feel comfortable.  She remained strong in her Christian faith until the very end and can honestly say, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7)

Friends and family are invited to visit on Friday, June 20th from 5-7 pm at Stallings Funeral Home, 3111 Mountain Road, Pasadena, MD 21122 where a memorial service will take place at 7:00 pm. Interment is private.
