September 4, 1929 ~ May 13, 2021 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Russell Maisel, Jr. Obituary

Russell Sterling Maisel Jr., age 91, of Annapolis, Maryland, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2021. Russ was born in Catonsville, MD, on September 4, 1929 to Russell Sterling Maisel Sr. and Janeva Slayman Maisel. He also had one sister, Bonnie Maisel, who he protected as only a big brother does.

While attending Glen Burnie High School, he met Mary Joan Medura and she soon became his high school sweetheart. “Joan” was an academic standout, the official high school student artist, and a local beauty. Russ and Joan married in 1950.

As a teenager, Russ worked for the family business, Maisel Brothers Inc., located in Glen Burnie, MD. He soon started his own company in the construction industry, R.S. Maisel Builders, Inc., and this career spanned more than sixty years building homes throughout Anne Arundel County.

Russ owned several airplanes, fished the waters of the Chesapeake from his Chris Craft Cabin Cruiser, took up golf later in life playing 36 holes many a day, and traveled the world with friends, business associates, and family. A trip down the Rhine starting in Amsterdam and ending in Budapest was one of his favorites, sipping the best wines at each city and village. An avid fisherman and hunter in his early years, he always had a great story that was entertaining and true!

His volunteer work included a role as President of the Rivera Beach Chapter of the Optimist Club and he had been a board member of Odenton Federal Savings and Loan Bank.

As a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and loyal friend, he was both cherished and loved by so many for his good nature, fun disposition, charismatic presence, steel trap mind, and well-honed wisdom.

Russ was predeceased by his wife, Joan. He is survived by his three loving and devoted daughters, Jeanne Lynn Maisel Russo of Pasadena (Frank Russo), Robin Ann Maisel of Annapolis, and Jan Cheryl Maisel Romaine of Wake Forest, NC (Robert Romaine). His four surviving grandchildren are Joni Russo Hooks (Michael Hooks), Frank Russo (Corrine Russo), Robert S. Romaine (Ruriko Romaine), and Claire Romaine. His great-grandchildren are Franki Hooks, Shaila Hooks, Luna Romaine, Sophia Russo, and Ciana Romaine, all beautiful, intelligent, and adorable.
