Ronald Sesney Obituary

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on May 8th, surrounded by his loving family. He was 75. Ron was a devoted husband to Deborah, a proud father to Sean and Carrie, and a doting Poppy to Avery, Brett, and Allison.

Ron proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and carried that sense of honor with him throughout his life. After returning home, he went on to own and operate his own drywall company. When an injury made it impossible to continue in that line of work, Ron made the brave decision to go to college and change careers. He became a tech professional in his forties, and eventually retired in 2013.

Throughout his life, Ron explored many hobbies, each one a reflection of his love for connection and joy. He spent his younger years hunting and fishing with friends who affectionately called him “Moose,” often more successful in storytelling than in sport. He also enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino, but much like his outdoor adventures, the stories he brought home were always richer than the haul. He was a passionate Baltimore sports fan, cheering on the Orioles, Colts, and later the Ravens. He attended as many games as he could. As he got older, he never missed a game on TV. During every game, he and his brother Tom would text back and forth, sharing their “expert” takes on the plays and decisions. Ron also enjoyed his Wednesday get-togethers with his lifelong friends in his later years.

In quiet moments, Ron had his favorite comforts like eating popcorn, curled up with Dottie, his faithful “Puppy Dog,” watching some of his favorite movies like Overboard, 50 First Dates, Blended, and Sweet Home Alabama. Yes, Ron loved chick flicks and proudly admitted it! Ron had a lifelong fascination with gadgets, electronics, and anything new in tech. He was always the first in line to get the latest devices. His love of online shopping became legendary—he could often be found sitting in his favorite chair, phone in hand, scrolling through deals… even while fast asleep! The family has many funny stories about surprise packages and unusual impulse buys, which brought endless laughter.

But, of course, family was the center of Ron’s world. He never missed a chance to spoil his loved ones. Nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his family, especially on vacations. Ron was constantly planning the next big family vacation with childlike enthusiasm. His heart was never fuller than when surrounded by those he loved.

To his first born, Sean, he was a coach, an “agent,” and a best friend. Coaching Sean in baseball was one of Ron’s greatest sources of pride and enjoyment—he was always Sean’s biggest fan. After Sean graduated from college, Ron continued to mentor him, helping to launch his career in technology. They worked side by side for many years. They shared countless carpools, with Ron whistling, singing “Car Tunes,” and talking Sean’s ear off. But most of all, Ron was Sean’s best friend.

To his daughter, Carrie, Ron was a kindred spirit. The family often joked that they shared a brain, mirroring each other’s big personalities, sharp humor, and boundless enthusiasm. Known for doing things in excess and for their quick wit, Ron and Carrie were always on the same wavelength. Whether cracking jokes or diving headfirst into a new obsession, they lit up a room with their energy, Their bond brought endless laughter, love, and unforgettable moments to the family.

Ron’s legacy is one of kindness, humor, resilience, and unconditional love; qualities that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He is survived by Deborah, his beloved wife of 55 years, his son Sean and daughter-in-law Stacey, his daughter Carrie, and his cherished grandchildren Avery, Brett, and Allison. He is also survived by his brothers Tom and Rick, and his sister Janet. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Anne.

A service will be held at Stallings Funeral Home on Thursday, May 15th at 1:00 pm. To honor Ron’s love of family vacations and good times, we invite everyone to wear your favorite vacation gear - Hawaiian shirts, Disney tees, or anything that brings joy. Just like Ron, come ready to celebrate life with laughter, love, and a little flair.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ron’s honor to St. Jude's or Tunnel to Towers—two causes close to his heart
