Robert "Bob" E. Douglas, Jr., 78, the son of the late Robert E. Douglas, Sr. and Ethel Williamson Douglas, went home to be with His Lord and Savior on May 10, 2024. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Carolyn A. Douglas. He is survived by his loving wife, Gertrude R. Douglas and his children Tracey Ewald and son-in-law Robert Ewald of Pasadena; Christopher Douglas of Pasadena; Benjamin Douglas of Nashville, TN; Vanessa Lamke of Pasadena; stepson Gregory L. Smith of Seaford, DE; and grandchildren.
Bob joined the United States Marine Corp in 1964 upon graduating from Hillsborough High School in Tampa, Florida. Upon completion of his time in service in 1967, he enrolled in University of South Florida, receiving a B.S. degree in Criminal Justice and a Master's of science degree from the University of Baltimore. Bob also graduated from St. Mary's Seminary and University where he received a Master's degree in Theology. He also holds a Doctorate degree in Christian Counseling from Kingsway University and Theological Seminary.
In 1997, Bob founded and was the Executive Director of the National Police Suicide Foundation, Inc. The foundation provided educational training seminars for emergency responders on the issues of mental health and suicide prevention. Since 1995, over 100,000 responders have been trained in the United States and internationally. He was considered a leading expert in the area of Police suicide according to Dateline, CNN, Time Magazine, and USA Today. He also taught at the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, on mental health and suicide prevention.
Bob was the author of six books, "Death With No Valor", "Hope Beyond The Badge", "Healing for a Hero's Heart", "Art of Being You", "I Can't Live an Empty Life", and "Seven Steps to a Balanced Life".
In July 1994, Bob retired as a Police Agent after twenty years with the Baltimore City Police Department and five years as a Patrol Officer with the Temple Terrace Police Department in Temple Terrace, Florida.
Bob served as Senior Pastor of Jenkins Memorial Church in Riviera Beach, Maryland from 1986 to 2009 before retiring and moving to Seaford, Delaware. Bob was a Police Chaplain for FOP Lodge #3 in Baltimore City from 1988 to 2002 and served as Chaplain for Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) at the ATF Headquarters in Washington, DC.
Bob was also the founder and Pastor of Compassionate Shepherd Ministries in Laurel, Delaware before moving into Winter Haven, Florida in 2019.
Bob's favorite Bible Scripture was Proverb's 3:5-6
Visitation will be held at Stallings Funeral Home 3111 Mountain Rd., Pasadena, Maryland on Friday June 28th from 4pm-7pm. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Jenkins Memorial Church on Saturday June 29, 2024 at 10am. Interment will be private.
