Robert Herd, Sr.

Robert Herd Sr., a devoted family man, passionate sports enthusiast, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at the age of 82. Robert was born on August 11, 1942, in Baltimore, MD, and most recently called Anne Arundel County his home for the past 12 years.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janice Herd; his parents, George and Ellen Herd; as well as his siblings, Anna Phelps, Vera Grahms, Junior Herd, Nora King, Billy Herd, Josephine King, and Leonard Herd. Robert was also predeceased by his step-daughter, Dena Thomas, and one grandchild.

Robert is survived by his fiancée, Gwen Coburn, who stood by his side with love and support. He leaves behind a legacy through his children, Robert Herd, Leonard Herd, Melinda Herd, and Rosie Haislip. He was also a cherished stepfather to Michael Likes, Charlene Backoff, and Frank Coburn. Robert's sister, Irma Faulkner, who shared in his life’s journey, survives him as well. He will be fondly remembered by his 18 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren who enjoyed his affection and adored his storytelling.

Robert was a dedicated employee at Becton and Dickinson, from where he retired in 1998. In retirement, he cultivated a passion for online poker, often engaging with friends in spirited games that epitomized his love for strategy and camaraderie. An avid fan of the Baltimore Ravens and Orioles, Robert never missed a chance to cheer on his teams. Additionally, he found joy and tranquility on the golf course, where he spent many afternoons.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the afternoon and evening visitations, which will be held at Stallings Funeral Home in Pasadena, Maryland, on Sunday, March 23, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm and from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A funeral service honoring Robert’s life will be held at the same location at 6:00 pm.

Robert Herd Sr. will be greatly missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
