Obituary

Philip Leo Rondeau, of Pasadena, Maryland, passed away unexpectedly on August 4, 2023.

Born on July 4, 1954, in Ware, MA, Phil was the second son and third child of Leo Oliver Rondeau and Rita Estelle Bolduc Rondeau.
A USCG 50-Ton Master Captain with decades at the helm, Phil was preparing to push off on his catamaran "Blue-Sky" to enjoy retirement with the love of his life and wife, Nona Kay Wollenschlager Rondeau.

Phil graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Western New England College. He enjoyed sharing stories from his first job supporting his father’s milk processing company but went on to complete a very successful career in the insurance industry spanning four decades.  As a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter specializing in commercial insurance, he was known for his technical detail and lively debate with an empathetic but firm style that was appreciated by all who had the opportunity to work with him or be mentored by him.

Quick-witted and with a sly sense of humor, Phil enjoyed life with exuberance with his wife, family, and friends.  Sailing was a huge part of his life. Phil was a twenty-year member of the United States Sail and Power Squadron, most recently affiliated with the Annapolis Squadron achieving the rank of Navigator.

A member of Eastport Yacht Club, Phil was a long-time and valued volunteer, especially with the Race Committee, where he served as anchor yanker.  Phil also enjoyed buzzing through the Chesapeake on his Seadoo, paddle boarding across the Magothy River, and kayaking his way around coves.
While he rarely missed a day off the water, he loved live music and was a frequent concertgoer with Noni and friends.  He was also quite the chef whipping up amazing dishes to share with all. but was happiest on his back deck picking crabs with Noni while watching “his” wild ducks waddle around.

Phil is survived by his wife, Nona Kay Wollenschlager Rondeau; his three siblings George H. Rondeau and Suzanne Kresser Rondeau, both of Massachusetts, and Helene W. Rondeau of Maine; two nephews Kevin and Erik Kresser; two great nephews and one great niece in Massachusetts. He is preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of Phil’s life will be held in October at the Eastport Yacht Club.  Phil’s ashes will be interred in a private ceremony at Funk’s Grove Cemetery in McLean County, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, any donations to help with the unexpected medical costs can be made with all proceeds going to the family: https://gofund.me/be5e4f68
