Mike was born in Baltimore to Cecilia Kurtz Dausch and Dr. Michael J Dausch. He enjoyed a childhood with his brother John, large extended family, and friends who were always ready for a bike ride or games at Herring Run Park. Mike was confirmed at Our Saviour Lutheran Church and had many life-long friends from the Walther League.
Mike was always proud of his City College (high school) days, where he ran on the track team (including a State championship in the quarter mile and mile relay), was treasurer of his senior class, and enjoyed many years of his class of 1958 reunions. He received his law degree from the University of Baltimore, and spent his life helping others through his career in real estate and estate planning law. Mike liked ‘50s rock and roll and jazz music, and was an avid fan of the Baltimore Colts, Orioles, and Ravens. He enjoyed telling stories (even when the audience already knew them), including the special trip with his father to New York to see the Colts defeat the Giants in the 1958 Championship.
Mike was pre-deceased by Carol (nee Erdmann), his beloved wife with whom he shared 39 wonderful years of marriage while living in Towson. They had 3 children, Gretchen Michaels (Robert), Michael IV (Lisa), and Laura Reiners (Robert), and 8 grandchildren, Charles and Caroline (Fabian Orban) Dausch; Robert, Kaitlin, Sean, and Brendan Reiners; and Abigail Michaels Hope-Hull (Joseph) and Benjamin Michaels. Many holidays and gatherings were enjoyed with Mike’s brother John Kurtz Dausch (Sally) and Carol’s sister Elsa Felten (Douglas) and their families.
Mike was blessed to find love again with his wife of nearly 20 years, Bonnie (nee Phelps), living in Pasadena. Together, they navigated a life filled with grandchildren, travel, helping others, caring for many fur babies (his little buddy Winston would wake him with a kiss in the morning), and being there to support each other and many others who needed a hand. Mike enjoyed time with Bonnie’s family - children Gustav Kurtz, Jr (Jeannine) and Susan Lechner (Richard); grandchildren Alexandria Kurtz Gable (Austin) and Gustav Kurtz III, Allen Lechner (Crystal), and Luke Lechner (Adriana); and greatgrandchildren August and Audra Gable, and Arthur Lechner.
Mike’s Christian faith was an important part of his life journey, and encouraged him to live his faith through many years of service on church councils, the boards of the Lutheran Mission Society and Baltimore Lutheran High School, and volunteering. He enjoyed working together to help others. He also used his legal skills helping many navigate the complex times of loss.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 20th at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (308 Oak Manor Drive, Glen Burnie, MD) with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Lutheran Mission Society Compassion Place (601 Hammonds Lane, Baltimore, MD 21225, www.compassionplace.org) – ministering to the needs of the body with food, clothing, and shelter, and to the needs of the soul.
