Mary Elizabeth Hildebrand, 90, a lifelong resident of Anne Arundel County, died at her home on December 27, 2020.
Mrs. Hildebrand was born on July 21, 1930 in Baltimore, MD to the late Herman and Elizabeth Stevens. She graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1947. After marrying her first husband, Henry Schmidt, she worked with him on the family farm before eventually taking a job at Fort Meade. She ultimately ended her long career serving as the Assistant Secretary of State for the State of Maryland. After retiring, she helped her late husband run his business, Hildebrand Masonry.
Outside of work, Mrs. Hildebrand was a devoted member of Baldwin United Methodist Church. She loved traveling, having visited many places in Europe and almost all of the United States, and had a passion for entertaining and hosting parties. Above all, Mary loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hildebrand is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Hildebrand. She is survived by her first husband, Henry Schmidt; son, Glenn L. Schmidt, who affectionately referred to his mother as "Pit Tootsie," and his wife, Georgia "Peaches" Schmidt of Pasadena; daughter, Deanna L. Baldwin and her husband, David of Pasadena; 3 grandchildren, Heather R. Schmidt, PhD and her husband, Nick Hovaker, Glenn "Marty" Schmidt and his wife, Alli, and Allison Grace Baldwin; and 1 great-grandchild due in January of 2021.
