Marlys Annette Leiter passed away peacefully in her sleep in Pasadena, MD on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. Marlys was born June 9, 1938 in Mitchell, South Dakota and lived a full and vigorous life.
She completed her education at Texas Western University at El Paso on a full music scholarship. She married Kenneth L. Leiter and they had two sons in El Paso. The family moved to Pasadena in 1966 where Marlys began teaching. She earned a Masters in Education at UM. She taught at Jacobsville Elementary School for 38 years and received a letter from President Bill Clinton thanking her for her service.
Marlys was predeceased by her husband Kenneth Leiter and by her parents Edwin O. Hessel and Mildred A. Hessel. Marlys is survived by her dear sister Beth Kirkman and sons Stephen Leiter and Andrew Leiter and grandson Brian Leiter.
Services and interment are private.
