Marlene K. (Bowen) Luzarraga

Marlene Kathryn Bowen Luzarraga, a resident of Baltimore, Maryland died at the Awakenings of Bel Air Assisted Living on June 30, 2021 at the age of 88.

Marlene was born on April 8, 1933 in Lancaster, PA to the late Harry Riley Bowen and Mary Kathryn Bowen. She graduated from Patterson High School and majored in the sciences. In Sept 1958, she married Artemio Soriano Luzarraga, and together, they welcomed two children to the world and enjoyed their own beautiful love story. She was a kind, loving and dedicated mother, and a loving grandmother and great-grandmother.

Marlene was an accomplished microbiologist at Johns Hopkins for forty-four years and taught many microbiology classes to nursing students there. She and Artemio loved travelling to exciting places, like Hawaii, Switzerland, Jamaica, and the Philippines. She found joy in singing and telling stories to her grandchildren, who adored her, and she was later able to share her spunky sense of humor and wit with her great-grandchildren. Her family and friends always knew they were loved, often receiving handwritten letters from Marlene full of the accounts of her adventures and words of wisdom.

In addition to her parents, Marlene is predeceased by her beloved husband of 45 years, Artemio; her sister, Charmaine Esther Marion Maas Angela Bowen Massoni; her brother-in-law, Nicholas Joseph Massoni Jr.; and her grandson, Matthew Bishop McDonough. She is survived by her son, Arthur John Luzarraga; her daughter, Maria Louise Luzarraga-McDonough; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; beloved nieces and nephews; and countless other family and friends whom she loved dearly.

Friends may call on Friday, July 2, 2021 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Stallings Funeral Home, P.A. where funeral services will begin at 8:00 PM.  The funeral service will also be livestreamed on Stallings Funeral Home's Facebook page (click HERE) and on the bottom of the obituary page.  Interment Saturday July 3, 2021 in New York.
