Marie Evangeline Keene was born in Baltimore, Maryland on June 27, 1943 to the late Mary Elizabeth Rogers and Alonzo E. Rogers who preceded her in death. She was the youngest of 4 siblings: 1 older sister, Delores Welch, who also preceded her in death and 2 brothers, Alonzo Elwood Rogers, Jr. and Solomon Rogers.
She was raised in a religious atmosphere at an early age. Marie met Willard H. Keene with whom she was joined in marriage early on in her life. From this union, 2 daughters were born: Dawn Denise Moore and Althea Marie Keene.
She was educated in the Maryland School System, graduating from Frederick Douglass High School.
She was employed by the Social Security Administration, from which she retired after 37 ½ years of service.
During her life, Marie loved traveling and fine dining. She was fun-loving, but a no-nonsense type of person. She believed in helping those who were less fortunate.
After retirement she became socially and politically active with good friends who were like family: Darryl D. Jones and Andrea M. Jones Horton. They were very instrumental in awakening her political and social awareness. She spoke out about these issues whenever she felt it necessary to do so, which was often.
Marie became ill, never to recover…BUT GOD knew best to call her home. She leaves to mourn her 2 brothers, Alonzo E. Rogers, Jr. and Solomon Rogers, as well as her 2 loving daughters, Dawn D. Moore and Althea M. Keene, 9 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, a host of family members, and friends who will miss her dearly.
