Marie Dubke Racz Obituary

Dr. Marie E. Dubke, CPA, also known as Marie Dubke Racz, died on May 22, 2020 at the age of 90 due to several age-related illnesses. In 2019 she moved to Sunrise of Severna Park Assisted Living after living in Pasadena, Maryland beginning in 1996 where she has resided in an in-law apartment in her niece's home. 

Dr. Dubke was Professor of Accountancy in the Fogelman College of Business and Economics of the University of Memphis of 30 years. She retired in 1996. A mentor and advocate of women students of accounting, she encouraged them to strive for a professional career in Certified Public Accounting at a time when woman were discouraged or denied admission to professional staff of public accounting firms. She organized Memphis chapters of two national organizations of women accountants; the American Society of Women Accountants, and the American Woman's Society of CPAs. She served on national committees of the AICPA, and state committees of the Tennessee Society of CPAs and Institute of Management Accountants, also serving as President of the Memphis chapters of both organizations. She served as national president of the American Woman's Society of CPAs, and president of the Educational Foundation of AWSCPA-ASWA.. 

For ten years, she owned and operated Fall Accounting and Auditing Seminars, Inc. which offered full and half day continuing education seminars for CPAs in the tri-state area. She served in many capacities of the University of Memphis chapter of Alpha Gamma  Delta. Among her charity activities were service on a number of United Way Committees and two years' term as Vice President of the United Way of Greater Memphis. She also was board member of Opera Memphis , and Memphis Arts Council.

Dr. Dubke was married to Dr. Gabriel P. Racz, Professor of Economics at U. of Memphis, who predeceased her. She was born in Buffalo, New York and obtained BBA and MBa from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and her PhD from Michigan State University. She held CPA certifications from Michigan and Tennessee. 

A private family memorial service will be held at Christian Temple, Catonsville, Maryland. After cremation, the ashes will be interred at Memorial Park, Memphis Tennessee. Dr. Dubke is survived by a niece, Donna Redmond of Pasadena, Maryland, a nephew Glenn Dubke of Lockport, New York, and a number of great nieces and nephews. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a contribution be made to Christian Temple in Catonsville, MD.
