In loving memory of Maria Hinerman
February 12 1987- August 8 2023.
Maria Eugenia Ussel Villalobos Hinerman (Maru), was born in Mexico City on February 12 1987, the second of four children to Guy Francois Ussel and Ana Maria Villalobos, and was mother to Samuel Blake Hinerman. Her siblings are Jose Antonio, Luis Andrés and Ana Cecilia.
At the age of twelve Maria went with the family to live in Canada. Initially in Oakville Ontario and then moved to Cambridge where she made many lasting friendships. This did not change throughout her life, making many new friends everywhere she went.
She finished high school at Monsignor Doyle Catholic Secondary School and went to study Graphic Design at George Brown College in Toronto, where she got a degree in Advertising and Copywriting, graduating with honours. During her college years, she lived with her grandmother Ana Maria and loved her as a second mother.
Maria loved art and started painting at ten years old, learning oil painting at the family cottage in Valle de Bravo, and later acrylic and watercolors. She loved to travel and joined a working tour through Europe where she met Justin Hinerman. Soon after the tour ended, she moved to his home in Maryland and was married June 1 2012. In October of the same year, she had a large beach wedding in Cancun Mexico, with all of her friends and family.
Perhaps in the most important day of her life, Maria gave birth to her son Samuel, on March 3rd 2013.
Her love of nature and her will to give back made her volunteer in Utila, Honduras for the conservation of iguanas. She always participated in walks or runs to raise money for different charities and volunteered with the Baltimore boy scouts.
Maria's love for travelling took her to different countries in Asia and Europe, and she always took initiative to organize family trips with things to do and places to visit. The beach was always the number one place to go. "Life is always better at the beach".
Maria also loved reading and writing. She got awards for publishing poetry and was working on a fantasy novel. She loved challenges and was very resourceful. She learned scuba diving, went bungee jumping and sky diving. Her greatest love was her son Sam, and always looked to give him the best life she could, even when presented with challenges of separated parenting.
Along with her son, family was the most important thing to Maria, so she made sure to take him on trips to visit family in Canada once or twice a year.
Amongst many things, Maria will be remembered for her positive attitude, loving personality, joy in life and willingness to help.
