Lois Sanders Obituary

Lois Arlene Sanders, a beloved educator and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Pasadena, Maryland on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at the age of 81. Born in Portland, Oregon on October 8, 1943, Lois was a beacon of strength, warmth, and generosity throughout her life.

Lois dedicated 25 years to inspiring young minds as a teacher before transitioning to her role as a library associate where her passion for reading resonated with everyone she met. Her commitment to education extended overseas, where she also taught children, creating a legacy of learning that spanned continents.

Her vibrant life was filled with laughter, adventure, and love. Lois was married to her late husband, John Sanders, in Germany, where he was stationed with the Army. They shared a partnership full of love and shared pursuits, including their many travels together.

A graduate of Washington State University, where she proudly finished second in her class, Lois never limited herself to just academic or professional achievements. Her heart was always open to exploration and her mind curious about the world beyond her doorstep. Traveling was her passion, especially treasured trips with her family and friends, often punctuated by spontaneous adventures and laughter. She also took many memorable journeys on the Camino de Santiago, a 1,000-year-old pilgrimage across Spain.

Lois had an innate ability to connect with people. Her warmth and friendliness ensured she never met a stranger; everyone she encountered was a friend. With boundless energy and positivity, Lois was a pillar of strength for her family, friends, and anyone in need. She was the first to offer support, her generosity boundless, her spirit indefatigable.

She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory:  her children, Anne Sanders, Jennifer Sanders and Adam Sanders; her grandson, Mason, and his wife Ashley. Lois is also survived by her brothers, Bob and Allen, and their families. Her parents, Roy Martin Wicklund and Iona Wicklund, her sister, Linnea, and her devoted husband, John Sanders, precede her in death.

Lois’s life was a testament to the power of love, education, and unwavering support. While she will be dearly missed, her spirit will continue to guide and inspire those who knew her.

In honor of Lois Arlene Sanders, we celebrate a life well-lived and remember her profound impact on all who were fortunate enough to know her.
