Leo Joseph Cantalupo, Sr., age 93, passed away peacefully at his home in Pasadena, Maryland, on May 22, 2025.
Born in 1931, Leo dedicated his life to his family, work, and passions. He worked as an accountant and business manager for WMAR-TV station in Baltimore until his retirement in 1995 where he earned the respect of his colleagues through his dedication and integrity.
Leo grew up in his beloved Highlandtown neighborhood of Baltimore, where he attended Sacred Heart of Jesus School before attending Patterson High School. As a varsity pitcher, he would brag about striking out Al Kaline, although Kaline was only a freshman. Leo went on to the University of Baltimore, where he earned his bachelor's degree in accounting.
As a devoted fan of Baltimore sports, Leo was an avid sports memorabilia collector and took great joy in attending signings and events, where he met many local baseball and football players. He cheered passionately for his beloved Baltimore Colts, Orioles and Ravens, a love he proudly shared with his family. At his 90th birthday celebration, he was brought to tears, stating, "this was my best day ever," when he received a personalized birthday greeting from his favorite player, Brooks Robinson.
Leo was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather-- the guiding heart of the family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Elaine Clara Cantalupo (née Repp); his children Dominic Cantalupo, Concetta Cantalupo, and Leo Cantalupo; his grandchildren Nicholas Cantalupo and his wife Megan Cantalupo, Gabriella and her husband Ryan Shiner, Alessandra Cantalupo, and Elizabeth Andrade; and his great-grandchildren Reagan Cantalupo, Cruz Cantalupo, and Serafina Andrade. In addition, Lisa Lawson, partner of Dominic and Josephine Cantalupo, mother of Gabriella and Alessandra. He was preceded in death by his children, Regina Cantalupo and Victor Cantalupo, his dear sister Jean Wittstadt, and parents Carmine and Anna Cantalupo (née Ruggiero).
Leo's strength, kindness, mischievous humor and unwavering love will leave a lasting legacy. His greatest attribute was his humility and genuine care for other people. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and admired him.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date to honor his life.
