Laura May Murphy, a cherished resident of Severn, MD, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 12th, 2025, at the age of 84. Born in the District of Columbia on Saturday, March 8th, 1941, Laura brought joy and warmth to everyone she encountered throughout her life.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Henry Elfery and Laura Elizabeth Elfery, her beloved husband William Samuel Murphy, her son Kenneth Murphy, and her sister Susan Panetta. Despite these significant losses, Laura remained a beacon of strength and love for her family and friends.
She is survived by her loving daughter Jean Gentry (Mark) and treasured grandchildren Mark Gentry (Shannon) and Erin Freitas (Sam). Laura's legacy continues to shine brightly through her great-grandchildren: Sydney Gentry, Harper Gentry, Mark Gentry, Riley Freitas, Jordy Freitas, Ramsey Freitas, Charley Freitas, and Oakley Freitas.
Throughout her career, Laura worked diligently stocking shelves, imbuing her tasks with dedication and care. Outside of work, she was a proud member of The Chapter Painting Club, where she shared her talents as a beautiful painter and general artist. Laura was also musically gifted, playing the piano with grace and joy.
An enthusiastic quilter and Pinnacle player, Laura had a passion for creativity and connection. She found immense happiness in the company of her family and friends and was a devoted animal lover, always advocating for the care and well-being of animals.
Laura's family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the SPCA in her honor, reflecting her deep love and compassion for animals.
The life of Laura May Murphy will be celebrated during a private family gathering. Her vibrant spirit and loving nature will be dearly missed, yet fondly remembered, by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
