Mom, Your memory lives on
In our hearts
Your legacy of love, friendships
and moments shared
will be engrained in our lives forever.
We love you mom!
It is with great sadness that the family of Katherine (Kay) Elaine Matthews announces her passing at the age of 92. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her, offering support, wisdom and unconditional love in abundance.
Kay was born and grew up in Baltimore and was a graduate of St. Mary, Star of the Sea School. Kay retired from Giant Food after working as a clerk in the pharmacy for more than twenty years.
Kay's passion was centered around her family. She and her late husband, John, spent many years enjoying anything related to the Chesapeake Bay or Ocean City - camping, boating, fishing, crabbing, enjoying the beach, long walks on the boardwalk. Kay was a devoted mother of six, devoting her time and energy to raising them and giving them a good life. She also loved working at Giant Food and made many long-lasting friendships along the way.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and August Lauenroth, her brother, Aug, her husband, John, Sr., son, John, Jr., and son-in-law, Daniel O'Brien. Kay is survived by five of her six children - Robert Matthews (Diane), Karen Bugg (Jim), Debra O-Brien, Linda Hill (David) and Daniel Matthews along with 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and one great, great grandson.
We will always carry your memory in our hearts, mom. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Gilchrist Hospice for the tender and loving care that they provided to our mom.
