On August 20, 2024, after a short illness, June Anna (Hare) Downey passed away at home, surrounded by family.
She was proceeded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years Mickey (Joseph M. Downey, Sr.), mother and father, Margaret J. Brennan and James F. Hare, Sr., brother David J. Hare and nephews Brian Hare and Timothy Hare.
She is survived by her five children Lea (Carlos) Downey-Rivera, Joan (John) Johnson, June Marie (Frank) Latorre, Joseph “Michael” (Susan), and Anne (Boh) Harrison. Also survived by her 19 grandchildren: Justin Downey (Tricia), Amanda Rivera Wolfe (Eric), Lauren Rivera, Courtney Johnson (Jake), Caitlyn Johnson, Johnny Johnson, Grant Downey, Jackson Holland, Thomas Holland, Megan Downey (Zack), Morgan Downey, Madison Downey, Michael Downey, Molleigh Downey, Christopher Harrison, Scott Harrison, Lily Harrison, Samuel Harrison and Adam Harrison. And one great grandchild, Emma Wolfe. Also survived by her brothers Peter (Joanne) Hare, James F. Jr. (Peggy) Hare, sister-in-law Barbara Hare and several nieces and nephews.
June was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and spent her early years in Brookline with her family. They then moved to Maryland and settled in Glen Burnie. She graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1960. June met and married Mickey and settled down in Pasadena, built a home, loved and nurtured five children and nineteen grandchildren.
Described as strong, opinionated, one of a kind, and a force of nature, she was loved by all who met her! Many knew her as the Tupperware lady, the parish council president, the PTA president, the girl scout leader, the Stride Rite shoes lady, her most beloved position was MOM, GRAM and JUNE HARE! June loved family gatherings, bingo, trips to the beach and the casino. Her presence will be missed by all!
Visitation will take place at Our Lady of the Chesapeake Church in Pasadena, Monday, August 26th, 2024, from 3pm to 8pm. Mass of Christian burial, Tuesday, August 27th,2024, at 9:30am, Our Lady of the Chesapeake Church, followed by burial at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery.
