Joseph W. Cavanaugh

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joseph W. Cavanaugh, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left us on Monday, June 22nd, 2026, at the age of 72. Joseph was born on January 29th, 1954, in Baltimore, Maryland, and spent his life enriching the lives of those around him with love, humor, and an unwavering sense of generosity.

Joseph, a resident of Middle River, Maryland, dedicated his career to working as a longshoreman for Local #1429. Known for his hard work and dedication, Joseph gained the respect and friendship of his colleagues over the many years he spent at the docks.

An avid outdoorsman, Joseph had a passion for fishing, crabbing, and hunting. He had an innate ability to find joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was spending a quiet morning casting lines or sharing laughter with family and friends. His fun-loving and outgoing nature made him a friend to all, and his selfless spirit led him to help those in need whenever he could.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Martha Cavanaugh, his cherished wife Jacqueline Sue Cavanaugh, his siblings Richard Cavanaugh, Martha Koller, Rose Leichling, and Mary Cavanaugh.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Kerri Rush and her husband, Mathew; his devoted son, Joseph C. Cavanaugh and his wife, Ashley; his brother, Patrick Cavanaugh and his wife, Trish. Joseph also leaves behind six grandchildren, Elyza, Edison, Everett, Corey, Logan, and Chase, and two great-grandchildren, Elena and Emma, who brought immense joy to his life. His legacy continues through his many nieces and nephews, all of whom he held dear.

The family invites all who knew and loved Joseph to celebrate his life at Stallings Funeral Home in Pasadena, Maryland. An afternoon visitation will be held on Sunday, June 28th, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at 5:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Diabetes Foundation in Joseph’s honor, contributing to the cause he cared deeply about.

Joseph W. Cavanaugh will be remembered as a cherished member of his community, a devoted family man, and a beacon of kindness and strength. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
