Jon Irving Mullarky of Chester, Maryland, a dedicated civil engineer and a retired Navy officer, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. He was 85 years old.
Born in Charles City, Iowa, on April 19, 1939, Jon was the beloved son of the late Irving and Dorothy Mullarky. He was predeceased by his cherished wife, Judith 'Judy' Mullarky, and his brother, Richard 'Dick' Mullarky.
Jon enjoyed a distinguished career that spanned both military and civilian service. He proudly served in the United States Navy, retiring at the rank of Commander, a testament to his leadership and dedication. Following his military service, Jon applied his skills in civil engineering, spending many years with the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association in Silver Spring and contributing to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) as a contractor, overseeing grant administration for concrete bridges.
An active participant in standard-setting committees for concrete, including the American Concrete Institute (ACI), Jon was committed to advancing the field through his expertise and leadership. His contributions had a lasting impact on the construction and engineering sectors.
Outside of his professional life, Jon found joy in sailing, a pastime that provided relaxation and a sense of adventure in his retirement years.
Jon leaves behind a loving family, including his sons, Michael Mullarky and Robert Mullarky. He is fondly remembered as a devoted father and friend, whose wisdom, dedication, and love touched all who knew him.
