John W. Burrell

John W. Burrell, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, husband, and friend, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, June 14, 2026. Born on December 11, 1947, in Kannapolis, North Carolina, John lived a life filled with love, laughter, happiness, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends.

John is survived by his children, John E. Burrell and his wife, Cher, and Michelle A. DeLisle; and by their mother, Patricia Burrell. He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Erin Roff and her husband, Brandon; John E. Burrell II and his fiancée, Alesyn; and Isabella DeLisle. He was especially proud of his great-granddaughter, Lilah Roff.

John will also be lovingly remembered by his sisters, Nancy Peterson and Shirley Altland; his brothers, Steve Williams and John Williams; and his sister-in-laws, Anna Williams and Alleda Burrell.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Raymond Burrell; his father, John C. Burrell; his mother, Helen Williams; his siblings Dougie, Donnie, and Ricky Burrell; and his wife, Diane Burrell.

John was a proud graduate of Kenwood High School in Baltimore County, Class of 1965. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, earning the respect and admiration of his fellow servicemen. John deeply loved his country and proudly displayed his patriotism, always showing great respect for the freedoms we enjoy and for the American flag.

He dedicated many years of service to the B&O Railroad before beginning a distinguished career in public service. John served for decades as the Director of Administration and leader within the Federal District Court, ultimately continuing his public service with the Maryland Judiciary at the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County. Throughout his career, he was known for his leadership, mentorship, integrity, and willingness to help others succeed.

Anyone who met John was immediately drawn to his warm personality and kind heart. He had a remarkable gift for making people feel welcome, valued, and appreciated. To John, there were no strangers—only friends he had not yet met. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, offer words of encouragement, or simply listen when someone needed support. His kindness, compassion, and genuine concern for others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

John approached life with a positive attitude, an infectious smile, and a wonderful sense of humor. He found joy in bringing people together and making others laugh. Many admired him for his generosity, wisdom, strength of character, and unwavering commitment to family and friends. He served as a mentor to many throughout his life, always ready with thoughtful advice, guidance, and support.

Whether he was sharing stories with friends, helping his son with projects, traveling with family and friends, listening to music, or dancing the night away, John found joy in life's simple pleasures. He treasured time spent with family above all else and took great pride in watching his children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter grow and succeed. His laughter was contagious, his friendship was genuine, and his presence had a way of making everyone feel at ease. John had a rare gift for bringing people together, and his love, humor, and generosity created countless memories that will be cherished forever.

In addition to his professional achievements, John was a past member of the Glen Burnie Moose Lodge and the American Legion, where he enjoyed the camaraderie and fellowship of fellow members. Known as a social butterfly, John loved spending time with family and friends, eating at local restaurants, dancing, fishing, listening to the ocean waves, and traveling. He also shared a special bond with his beloved cat, Abby, whom he lovingly cared for until her passing.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate John's life during visitation on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Stallings Funeral Home in Pasadena, Maryland. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., also at Stallings Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Glen Haven Memorial Park, followed by a Celebration of Life gathering at Two Rivers Restaurant in Pasadena, Maryland.

John's family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the physicians, nurses, and staff at the University of Maryland Medical R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center for the exceptional care, compassion, dignity, and support they provided to John and his family during his final days. Their dedication and kindness will never be forgotten.
