John Otto Obituary

John Milton Otto, 79, a 19 year resident of Hanover, PA and formerly of Brooklyn Park, MD, died at his home on May 16, 2020.

Mr. Otto was born on March 24, 1941 in Baltimore, MD to the late Joseph and Amelia Otto. He served honorably in the United States Army from 1959 to 1962. After returning from his military service, John held several jobs, including as Teletype Operator for the DMV in Glen Burnie, as a Technician at Westinghouse, and an Estimator at the Maryland Shipyard. In 1963 he began a 27 year career with the Anne Arundel County Police Deparment, reaching the rank of Corporal before retiring in 1990.

Outside of work, John was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #70. He was very mechanically-inclined and artistic. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, painting, and tinkering with things that needed repair.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Otto is preceded in death by his brothers, Vernon and Melvin Otto and sister, Margaret Grief. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Brenda Otto; daughters, April Herman and her husband, Edward, Jr., and Holly Otto; 2 grandchildren, Megan and Noah Herman; 4 grand-dogs, Nacho, Tater Tot, Abba, and Gemini; and 2 nephews, Vernon and Clayton; and 1 niece, Rhonda.

In response to the state and county-mandated COVID-19 restrictions, the immediate family has chosen to keep the funeral services and interment private in order to protect the health of the public. However, we will be livestreaming the funeral service on Thursday May 21 at 12:00 p.m. on our Facebook page (click here) and Mr. Otto's obituary page.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
