John I. Coles, Sr.

John was born on a tranquil Sunday, July 13, 1947, in the welcoming community of Alberene, Virginia, where he began a journey marked by kindness, loyalty, and an unwavering dedication to his family. Throughout his life, John was known for his integrity, his gentle spirit, and his capacity to bring laughter and warmth to those around him.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Lena Coles, whose partnership in life was a testament to enduring love and companionship. John also leaves behind a legacy of family through his son, John I. Coles, Jr. and his wife Gail. He is also survived by his siblings Eugene Peyton Coles, Charles McDonald Coles, Rosa Mae Coles Kidwell, Larry Swan Coles, and Angela Faith Straker, who together shared countless memories and bonds that spanned a lifetime.

John was a proud and loving grandfather. His granddaughters Jonnie Coles, Amber Hugel, and Kristen Heitzer brought immense joy to his life. He also treasured the laughter and energy of his great-grandchildren Kayleigh, Jayce, Karson, Kylan, and Blake, who filled his home with youthful exuberance.

He was predeceased by his father Eugene Peyton Coles, his mother Virginia Estelle Coles, his daughter Michele Lee Coles, his sister Gloria Jane Coles Simpson, his granddaughter Stacey McCullough, and his granddaughter Jamie Coles. Their memories were cherished by John throughout his lifetime as guiding lights and sources of inspiration.
