Joan Nonn, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on Saturday, March 18, 1933, in Baltimore, Maryland, Joan spent most of her life as a resident of Greenland Beach, MD.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, C. Roland Brack and Evelyn D. Brack, her beloved husband Richard "Pat" Nonn, her brothers Darrell and Rodger Brack, and her grandson Christopher Smelser. She leaves behind a legacy of love and family, survived by her devoted children Pamela Smelser, Deborah Abey (and her husband Kenneth) and Barbara Smelser, and Robert Smelser (and his wife Kathleen), her cherished sister-in-law Hannah Brack, her adoring grandchildren Dustin Abey, Stephen Abey, Allyson Boss (and her husband Jeremy), and Lauren Smelser, and seven precious great-grandchildren.
A graduate of Glen Burnie High School in 1951, Joan went on to enjoy a fulfilling career as a secretary at Westinghouse, where she dedicated over 15 years before retiring in 1993. Beyond her professional life, Joan was an active member of the Stoney Creek Democratic Club and the Stoney Creek Seniors Club, where she delighted in playing bingo and embarking on various trips.
Joan’s heart was firmly rooted in her family, which she cherished above all else. Her love for shopping was second only to her love for her family. A woman of varied interests, Joan found joy in reading, playing solitaire, working on crossword puzzles, and indulging in the thrill of visiting casinos. Joan always enjoyed going on road trips, shopping trips, and dinners with her daughter Debbie and her friends. An avid bingo player, Joan's enthusiastic spirit will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life and share in the memories of a truly wonderful woman on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am at Stallings Funeral home immediately followed by a funeral service in Joan’s honor beginning at 11:30 am. Interment Glen Haven Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake in memory of Joan Nonn.
Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family will be dearly missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all those she touched.
