On October 30, 2025, our beloved mother, JoAnn Jennie Calvert nee Theodore, entered into the Kingdom of Heaven where she was reunited with the love of her life, her husband of 52 years, Vernon E. Calvert, Sr.
Born on February 1, 1937, in Baltimore to the late George and Georgia Theodore, JoAnn was a first-generation American who was very proud of her Greek heritage. JoAnn had a dual education in both English and Greek Studies. After attending school during the morning in English Studies, JoAnn would attend classes at The Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Annunciation for her Greek Studies.
Following the death of her mother, when JoAnn was 16, she helped her father by looking after her younger siblings and running his household.
She met Vernon in 1956, and they married on February 16, 1957. JoAnn then embarked on her career as a Homemaker. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother. JoAnn always put the needs of others ahead of her own, especially those of her husband and children.
Known for her kind heart and warm smile, JoAnn made friends easily.
JoAnn was an avid reader and music lover. A lifelong Orioles fan who stuck with her team thru thick and thin, JoAnn enjoyed growing flowers and going to the casino. Her greatest joy came in spending time with her family.
As well as her parents, JoAnn was preceded in death by her siblings, Helen Pickett, Harry Theodore, Mary Arndt, and Pauline Carter-Winchester. She is survived by her brother, Pete Theodore and his wife Fotini.
JoAnn is also survived by her children, Paul Calvert, Vernon Calvert, Jr. and his wife Bonnie, Cynthia Williams, and Jamie Calvert, as well as granddaughter, Alexis Williams, and beloved nieces, Donna Carter and Lucy Jarrells.
Mom's passing leaves a hole in our hearts that can never be filled.
