Obituary

James Durell Shortt, 89, of Pasadena, Maryland, died May 1, 2022. 

He was diagnosed in 2019 with Dementia related to Alzheimer's. It was the first time in his life he had been sick.

He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Immal Ruth Honaker Shortt; his mother, Anna Louise Holland Short; his father, Alfred Monroe Shortt; and his brother Sherlock Eli Shortt. 

Hi is survived by his three children, Debra (Ken) Valine; Jane (Scott) Rome; and Larry (Carol) Shortt, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and his sister, Billie Jean Faile. 

Jim served as a machinist mate in the U.S. Navy onboard to USS Gearing during the Korean conflict. Upon his discharge, he went to school to become an electronics technician and went to work for Westinghouse Electric. He retired from Westinghouse in 1994. 

He loved bluegrass music and played the guitar and banjo; flea markets and thrift shops; gardening; art; and his family. 

Friends may call Friday, May 6th from 10-11 am at Stallings Funeral Home, 3111 Mountain Road, Pasadena, MD 21122 where a service will begin at 11:00 am. Interment will take place Monday, May 9th at 1:00 pm at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, 1122 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville, MD 21032.
