James Smith Obituary

James H. Smith, 87, a lifelong resident of Pasadena, passed away Monday, August 12, 2024 in his home surrounded by his family.

Mr. Smith was born April 2, 1937 in Williamsport, Maryland to the late Carl and Anna Smith. He served honorably in the US Army between 1959 - 1962. He then went on to work for Northrop Westinghouse until his retirement after 39 years of service. Mr. Smith loved trains and was actively involved at the Clayville Railroad Train Garden where every year, for Christmas, he and his family would sponsor a child with cancer. All the proceeds from the Train Garden would be donated towards that child's treatment. In 2022, he was able to get 10,000 visitors through the garden. He created the train layout and structures that accompanied the garden. He was an active member of Chesapeake Christian Center, where he lead men’s groups and taught Sunday School. Above all, Mr. Smith loved his family. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He will certainly be missed.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith is preceded in death by 3 siblings. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Virginia Smith; daughters, Theresa Hamm and her husband David, Pam Cute and her husband Jim; 3 siblings; grandchildren, Danette Pinnix-Fastner, Steven Pinnix, Holly Peacy, Nicole Hamm and Toni Jeter; 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
