James Powell Ganley, 82, a resident of Gibson Island and formerly of Shreveport, Louisiana passed away Monday, March 16, 2020 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center.
Dr. Ganley was born April 25, 1937 in Altadena, CA to the late Joseph and Ruth Ganley. He was the Chief of Ophthalmology at LSU Health Science Center in Shreveport, Louisiana for 27 years and he retired in 2004 after 41 years as a physician. He was a member of the International Society of Geographical and Epidemiological Ophthalmology and he was the founding editor of The Journal of Ophthalmic Epidemiology in 1993. He enjoyed photography, collecting antiques and paintings. He loved being with his grandchildren and would look forward to his annual summer "Gibson Island Camp" that he would spend with them.
Dr. Ganley is survived by his wife of 54 years, Anne Hunter Ganley; his 4 daughters, Anne Ganley Landry, Susan Ganley Harder, Katherine Ganley Alcaine, and Elizabeth Ganley Scivally; 9 grandchildren; and his 8 siblings, William Ganley, Linda Ganley Gonzalez, Alice Ganley Swope, Madeline Ganley Abbitt, Ruth Ganley Hirsch, Joseph Ganley, John Ganley and Mark Ganley.
