It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Herman James Paxton, who left us on Saturday, March 7th, 2026, at the age of 49. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, on Tuesday, May 18th, 1976, James spent his life bringing joy, laughter, and delicious meals to those around him. His vibrant presence will be keenly missed by family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
James was a long-time resident of Baltimore, Maryland, where he dedicated his professional career as a talented chef at the Franciscan Center of Baltimore. He was not just a creator of flavors, but a creator of memories, bringing comfort and joy through his culinary skills.
Those who knew James remember him as a one-of-a-kind individual with a deep love for sports and gaming, particularly for playing Call of Duty. He was an active former member of the Ravens' Roost, sharing camaraderie with fellow sports enthusiasts and cheering on his beloved teams. However, his greatest passion was his family. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and held the number one spot in his heart.
James was the beloved husband of Tonya Lynn Paxton and was preceded in death by his cherished parents, Earl Woodward, Rose Paxton, and Mary Pennington. James is survived by his beloved children: son Bernard Atkins and his wife Ciera, and son Matthew Atkins and his wife Jessica; siblings: Robert Paxton, and Stacy Woodward Mcie alongside her husband Carl; and grandchildren: Noah Atkins, Aiden Neal, Zoey Atkins, Faithlynn Atkins, Ayden Atkins, Brayden Atkins, Cali Atkins, Charlotte Simmers, Carter Atkins, Elijah Atkins, and Madi Simmers; and a host of extended family and friends.
His family invites all who knew and loved James to join them in celebrating his life. An afternoon visitation will be held at Stallings Funeral Home in Pasadena, Maryland, on Friday, March 13th, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, followed by an evening visitation from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The funeral service will be on the same day at Stallings Funeral Home at 8:00 pm.
James Paxton's legacy lives on through the laughs he shared and the love he gave. He will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
