Henry E. Rey, Sr., 97, a resident of Solley, Maryland, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at Morningside House of Friendship in Hanover, Maryland.
Henry was born November 1, 1925 in Baltimore, MD to the late Belton and Caroline Rey. He served honorable in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theatre of Operations with the 29th Infantry Division, 89th Chemical Mortar Battalion. After the war, Henry went on to work for the B&O Railroad, where he retired as a Yard Master after forty years of service. He was a member of numerous organizations, including the VFW, the American Legion and the Freemasons Lodge #213. In his free time Henry enjoyed gardening, volunteering at the Christ Lutheran Church in Baltimore and attending reunions of his old Army unit.
In addition to his parents, Henry is preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Blanche Rey, son Richard Rey, daughter Kathleen Truitt and grandson Michael Truitt. He is survived by his children, Henry Rey, Jr., Carol Brewer, Irvin "Butch" Rey, and Margaret "Peggy" Capriulo; eight grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Friends may call Monday, November 6, from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm at Stallings Funeral Home, 3111 Mountain Road, Pasadena, MD 21122. Services will take place there on Tuesday, November 7, at 11:30 am. Interment will take place immediately after the service at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Rd., Crownsville, MD. 21032.
