Helen Irene Willard (nee’ Horecni), 82, of Fruitland, Maryland sadly left us on Wednesday, October 2nd, 2024, after a lengthy battle with Dementia related illness. Born on April 5th, 1942, in Brunswick County  North Carolina the second child of Katie Horecni (nee Cifers), and Frank John Horecni.
Helen was survived by her children William Thomas Willard Jr. “ Tommy” (64), Christopher Wayne Willard (54), David Allen Willard (49), Amanda Marie Justice (nee’ Willard 45), (11) Grandchildren, (15) Great Grandchildren, and (1) Great-Great Grandchild. Predeceased by her husband, William Thomas Willard Sr. (56), her son, Patrick Frank Willard (53), and her daughter Victoria Lynn Schmidt (nee’ Willard 63). She was also survived by her sisters Barbara Kerr (Dave), Marie Williams (Will), and her brothers John Horecni (Janice), Michael Horecni, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews who loved her dearly.
Helen Irene Willard moved to Baltimore City, Maryland when she was young and lived on Pearl Street downtown with parents, sisters, and brothers. She moved to Morrell Park with her family later, then to Smallwood Street in South Baltimore where she raised her children and grandchildren.
She met William Thomas Willard Sr. soon after he returned from serving in the U.S. Army in Korea and fell in-love with him, and they were married in Baltimore in1963 (29 years together). Thomas  became ill and he was diagnosed with Cancer in August 1991, he suffered and succumbed to the disease at St. Agnes Hospital on June 13, 1992, just 6 days after his birthday.
Helen was a stay-at-home Mother, caring for her Children, and Grandchildren, and neighborhood children. She was a great cook and prepared her delicious recipes such as meatloaf & mashed potatoes, fried chicken, stuffed green peppers, casseroles, soups & stews, roast beef, coleslaw, potato salad, pancakes and sausage, eggs & bacon, French toast, cinnamon toast, and school lunches for all the kids.
Helen dedicated her life to her family, she never drove a car, she loved to bake cakes and decorate them with her homemade icing flavored with Almond! She also made fudge and candies, loved to make crafts, crochet blankets, as well as other talents.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to so many people in her lifetime. She loved to go on Sunday drives through the countryside, visits to the BWI Airport Park. She celebrated birthdays with the children and holidays with joy and happiness. She was a great person, and a perfect Mother.
We will miss her, but we know she is now our guardian angel who will be looking out for us from above.
May she rest in peace!
Amen!
