With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Gladys Marx, who peacefully departed this world on March 15, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on October 31, 1938, in Baltimore, Maryland, Gladys was a beacon of kindness and warmth who touched the lives of everyone she encountered.
Gladys spent the last eight years of her life in Pasadena, Maryland, having previously resided in Perry Hall. She is fondly remembered for her unwavering dedication to her family and her community. She was the cherished daughter of the late Iver and Alice Dorsch and grew up surrounded by a loving family. She graduated from Eastern High School and went on to establish a dedicated career as an office manager for an architectural firm.
Gladys was predeceased by her devoted spouse, John Edward Marx Sr., as well as her parents, siblings Albert Dorsch, Elizabeth Congdon, Helen Schluter, Clara Waugh, and Doris Thomas.
She is survived by her beloved daughter, Lisa Wolfe of Pasadena, Maryland, and her sons Richard I Martel Jr., and Michael Martel and his wife Suzanne. Her family also includes step-son John E. Marx Jr. and his wife Tracy, and step-daughter Teresa Willard and her husband Kevin, along with her brother-in-law Fred Schluter. Gladys' legacy of love extends to her 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy and pride.
A devoted Sunday school teacher at St. Charles in Pikesville, Gladys imparted her wisdom and values to many young souls. She had a passion for gardening and found solace in the simple yet profound beauty of nature. Her heart always found peace at Bethany Beach, where she loved to spend time with her family, and she was an avid traveler, ever eager to explore new places and cultures.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Gladys Marx will be held at Our Lady of the Chesapeake in Pasadena, Maryland, on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. Friends and family are invited to attend afternoon and evening visitations at Stallings Funeral Home in Pasadena, Maryland, on Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Interment private. In lieu of cut flowers, plants and flowers to keep Grandmom's garden alive would be appreciated
