Frank E. Speargas, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at the age of 97, in Arnold, Maryland. Frank was born on June 4, 1927, in Baltimore, Maryland, and was raised in the vibrant Hampden section of the city.
Frank's life was marked by dedication and service. During World War II, he proudly served in the United States Navy as a member of the Sea Bees. His commitment to his country continued as he served in the Naval Reserves for an impressive 45 years, retiring with honor as a Chief Petty Officer. He was a member of the American Legion Dundalk Post.
In his civilian life, Frank was a respected and hardworking businessman. He owned and operated the Gulf Station & Speargas Brothers Garage in his beloved Hampden for many years. Afterward, he worked as the Shipping Foreman for Crown Cork & Seal for over 15 years. Upon its closure, he joined Maryland Cup in Owings Mills, where he worked until his retirement in 1992.
Frank was a man of varied interests and enjoyed a full and active life. An avid sailor, and power boat racer, he found joy and adventure on the water. He and his wife took their RV all over the United States with boundless enthusiasm and later in life he took up golfing and woodworking pastimes that brought him great delight in his last decade.
Frank leaves behind a loving family: his devoted daughter, Sharon Speargas, and her husband Donald Wootteon; his cherished son, Steven Speargas; his granddaughter Nicole Laser and her husband Jarrod; his grandsons, Brian Speargas, and Chad Speargas and his wife Jody. He was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren who were his pride and joy.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mildred M. Speargas; his parents, Frank Speargas and Gertrude Louise Speargas; his daughter-in-law Barbara Speargas, granddaughter Kimberly Gallagher and her husband John; and his sister Mary Louise Pitz and her husband Harry.
Family and friends will be received for an afternoon visitation on Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, and an evening visitation from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Stallings Funeral Home in Pasadena, Maryland. A funeral service to honor and celebrate Frank's remarkable life will be held at the same location on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 9:00 am. Interment Meadowridge Memorial Park.
Frank E. Speargas truly embodied a life well-lived, marked by service, love, and passion. His legacy will continue through the many lives he touched, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
