Doris Johnson, of Chester, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 13th, 2024, at the age of 87 with her beloved nephew, Dane, by her side.
Born on Tuesday, November 30th, 1937, in Towson, Maryland, Doris lived a fulfilling life marked by her love for her family and her joy for simple, everyday moments. A long-time resident of Pasadena, Doris resided in the Lake Shore community for over 40 years before moving to the Eastern Shore of Maryland with the love her life, Ronald H. Johnson -whom she affectionately called “Ronnie”.
Doris retired from Anne Arundel Co Public Schools in the late 90s after working as a Reading Resources Teacher for nearly 20 years. Touching the lives of countless students, her passion for education and unwavering commitment to her role earned her the respect and admiration of both colleagues and her pupils.
Doris was an active member of the American Legion and the Kent Island Yacht Club, where she formed many cherished friendships over the years. She enjoyed the simple thrills in life, and never passed up a chance to play Keno or bet on a horse race.
Known for her culinary skills, Doris was a great cook who had a knack for making copious amounts of food. She loved a good meal with good people and, occasionally, a good Bloody Mary. Her often cantankerous, yet endearing, demeanor never failed to bring laughter to those around her.
Doris was preceded in death by her doting husband, Ronald H. Johnson; her parents, John Alexander Stuller and Helen G. Stuller; her sisters, Joan Mariner and Nancy Drain; and her nephew, Lance. She is survived by her loving nieces and nephews, Dane, Pam, Mike, Darby, and Erica, along with several great and great-great nieces and nephews, and her good friend Tilly Cronin.
Doris will be greatly missed by those closest to her, but her memory will be cherished, as we fondly recall her candidness, laughter, generous spirit, and the many meals shared around the table.
