It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Delores Pauline Schmitz, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed this world on Wednesday, April 1st, 2026, at the age of 95. Delores was a cherished resident of Pasadena, Maryland, and was born in Baltimore, Maryland, to her late parents, Wilbur Melvin Nichols and Gladys Nichols, on Saturday, November 8, 1930.
Delores led a life full of love, dedication, and generosity. She attended Glen Burnie High School before embarking on a long and fulfilling career as a data processor, a position she held with pride for over 30 years until her retirement.
A woman of many passions, Delores was a member of the Notable singing group that brought joy to the residents of nursing homes with their melodious performances. She had a green thumb, nurturing her garden with care, and was an avid NASCAR fan who rarely missed a race. Her life was a testament to wit and kindness; she was known for making soup for the homeless and donating coats to those in need. Above all, family remained the most important part of Delores’s life, always placing them first in her heart.
Delores was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, John F. Schmitz Sr., her brothers Norman Nichols and Robert Nichols, and her sister Alice Channels.
She is survived by her devoted sons, John Schmitz, Jr. and his wife Darlene, Joseph Schmitz and his wife Carol, and her cherished sister, Mary Ellen Drake. Delores was a proud grandmother to nine grandchildren and a great-grandmother to eleven great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who held her dear.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Delores touched are invited to celebrate her life during the afternoon and evening visitations on Tuesday, April 7th, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm and from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Stallings Funeral Home in Pasadena, Maryland. A funeral service will be held in her honor at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church in Pasadena, MD, on Wednesday, April 8th, 2026, at 11:00 am. Interment Mt. Carmel Cemetery
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church 4760 Mountain Road, Pasadena, MD 21122, supporting the community that was so close to Delores’s heart.
Delores’s legacy of love, generosity, and the joy she brought to so many lives will be remembered fondly and deeply missed by all who knew her.
