Cheryl Underwood Obituary

Cheryl Ann Underwood, 76, a resident of Maryland, passed away Monday, January 15, 2024 in her home.

Mrs. Underwood was born October 11, 1947 in Baltimore, MD to the late Lewis and Berkeley Thompson.

While mostly a resident of Maryland, Mrs. Underwood also lived in Minnesota, New York and briefly in Paris, France. She graduated from Western high school and later earned her Associate's Degree from Anne Arundel Community College. She enjoyed her career as a Scheduling Coordinator for the Visiting Nurses Association for nearly 20 years until her retirement. She also served as Treasurer for the PTA at Ferndale Elementary School. In her younger years, Mrs. Underwood enjoyed dancing, especially the "jitterbug" and listening to Michael Jackson. She loved Duck pin and Ten pin bowling and was a member of many leagues. In her free time, she enjoyed traveling, spending time at the beach, cooking, collecting Annalee Dolls and playing cards and games. Her favorite game of all time was "Q*bert” and you could often find her down at the local arcade, with a crowd surrounding her, earning a new high score. She absolutely adored her family, especially her devoted husband, and lived for her grandchildren.  Her extended family would all often get together for holiday gatherings and family picnics on the 4th of July and Labor Day. Mrs. Underwood had a great sense of humor and loved good gossip. She would often tease her children about who her favorite was and never was quite consistent in her answer. She was also known for her calm demeanor and compassion. Everyone who came in contact with her loved her and enjoyed her company.  On any given day, she loved a good cup of coffee and chatting with her husband and children. She was a dedicated Christian who was a member of the Linthicum Heights United Methodist Church where she loved to listen to her husband, Cecil, sing.

Mrs. Underwood grew up surrounded by a family of tightly knit aunts, uncles, and cousins, with whom she has remained close throughout her life. She lived a vibrant life and had so much love to give. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Mrs. Underwood is survived by her loving husband of 26 years, Cecil Underwood; children, Steve Beares and his wife Kathy Lally-Beares and Sheila Philip and her Fiance Craig Eddy; step-children Scott Underwood, Shawn Underwood, Mark Underwood, Melissa Dick and Teresa Kelly; brother Kenneth Lewis Thompson and his wife Carolyn Critzer Thompson; grandchildren Benjamin Beares, Shelby Beares, Mattigan Philip and her Fiance Deandre Dill and great granddaughter Macee-Grace Beares.
