Cecil Wayne Underwood

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Cecil Wayne Underwood, a cherished father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who departed this life on February 26, 2026, at his home in Elkridge, Maryland. Born on September 7th, 1937, in Texas, Cecil lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication.

Cecil's journey through life was marked by his unwavering commitment to his family and his work. He proudly served as an attorney for the FDIC for over 30 years until his retirement, showcasing a career defined by diligence and integrity.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cheryl Underwood, his parents, Floyd and Bernice Underwood and his sister Nancy Gish. Cecil leaves behind a legacy through his loving children: Scott Underwood, Shawn Underwood, Mark Underwood, Melissa Dick, and Teresa Kelly; as well as his step-children, Stephen Beares and Sheila Philip. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will continue to cherish his memory.

Cecil's vibrant personality shone through in all aspects of his life. Known for his quick wit, he often brought smiles with his jokes and spontaneous melodies. His voice was a beloved addition to his church choir, and his love for music was as enduring as his spirit. An enthusiast for family gatherings, especially by the pool with plenty of grilled food. Cecil enjoyed watching movies, bowling, spending sunny days at the beach, and engaging in friendly competition over card games, particularly Phase 10.

A graduate of Pasadena High School's class of 1955 in Texas, Cecil received his Bachelor of Laws degree from Baylor University in 1961 and was certified by the Supreme Court of the state of Texas as an Attorney and Counselor at Law in November of 1961. Exemplifying the values of education and perseverance, his life was a testament to his passion for learning and his respect for the power of knowledge.

A service to celebrate Cecil's life will be held at Stallings Funeral Home on Thursday, March 5, 2026 from 3:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm with a service beginning at 8:00 pm, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and share the stories that made him such a remarkable presence in their lives. As we bid farewell to our beloved Cecil, we take solace in the many joyful memories he left behind, knowing that his legacy will continue to inspire all those who knew him. His warmth, humor, and wisdom will be sorely missed but fondly remembered by everyone whose lives he touched.
