Carl Joseph Schmidt, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 22nd, 2025, one day shy of his 81st birthday, at his residence in Pasadena, Maryland. Born on Monday, October 23rd, 1944, in Anne Arundel, Maryland, Carl spent his life rooted in the community he loved.
A dedicated worker, Carl spent 43 years as a maintenance worker at W.R. Grace, where his skills and dedication defined his career. He also contributed part-time for 15 years at Baltimore Tank Lines, where he was admired not only for his work ethic but also for his vibrant personality that brought life to the workplace.
Carl had a knack for woodworking and building things; his handiwork was a testament to his skilled craftsmanship. A man who was happiest when working around the house or traveling, Carl cherished spending time with family above all else. He was the kind of gentleman whose welcoming nature and robust spirit left an indelible mark on everyone he met.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Colette Schmidt, and his four children: Carla Morrow and her husband Ed, Joe Schmidt and his wife Kim, Donna Ginevan and her husband Bruce, and Chris Schmidt and his wife Autumn. A proud and loving patriarch, Carl was the revered grandfather to Heather, Josh, Chris, Dusty, Nick, CJ, Corey, Cody, Jeremy, Madelyn, Tori, Carly, Cassidy, Lacey, Allyson, Beau, Max, Vinny, and Vivian. He also leaves behind his cherished great-grandchildren: Lily, Bently, Averi, Bryce, Kendyl, Layla, Brody, Mila, Mack, Maddox, Brielle, Nova, Crew, Andi, Richie, and Charlie.
Carl was predeceased by his father, Louise Carroll Schmidt; his siblings, Louis Schmidt and Hazel Kelley; and his grandson, Matthew Morrow. Despite these losses, Carl continually shared his boundless love and zest for life with those around him.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Stallings Funeral Home in Pasadena, Maryland, where an Afternoon Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 26th, 2025, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. An Evening Visitation will follow from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A Funeral Service celebrating Carl's life will take place at the same location on Sunday, October 26th, 2025, at 8:00 pm.
Carl Joseph Schmidt will be remembered as a man full of personality and charm, a steadfast family man, and an all-around great guy. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, carried forward by his loving family, whose lives he shaped with his warmth and wisdom.
