Betty Jane Ellison, née Lewis, our cherished matriarch and beloved mother, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at the age of 93, surrounded by the love of family. Born on April 14, 1932, in Charleston, West Virginia, to the late Ruby and Charles Lewis, Betty was a woman who could make a simple moment extraordinary, from the first bite of her legendary peanut butter fudge to the Christmas feasts she would lovingly prepare. Her holiday home was a testament to her spirit, always a place of warmth and welcome, with an open invitation for all to come, stay, and enjoy.
Betty’s love for music was woven into the fabric of her life. Elvis and George Strait, she was their number 1 fan. She blushed and laughed in telling the story of the day she met Elvis Presley at the Memphis Fair before he was the King, she kissed him on the cheek—a treasured memory she held for a lifetime.
She is now reunited in heaven with her parents, Ruby and Charles; her husband, Price Ellison; her daughter, Sandra Olson; her siblings, Charles, Wanda, and Romalee; her dearest friend, Aunt Winnie; and three beloved grandchildren.
Her legacy of faith, love, and resiliency will be carried on by her children: Stephen Ellison, James Ellison, Sharon Taylor, and Roberta Barrington; her dear siblings: Frank Lewis and Frances Leach; as well as her 16 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. They will continue to share her stories, her laughter, and her love. Betty’s warmth and generosity will live on in the hearts and memories of all who knew her.
A graveside service to celebrate her life will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 1:30 PM at Glen Haven Memorial Park in Glen Burnie, Maryland. All whose lives were touched by Betty are warmly invited to attend.
