Betty Beckett Obituary

In loving memory of Betty Beckett, born on Sunday, September 24th, 1933, in Baltimore, MD, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 29th, 2024, at the age of 91. Betty was a cherished resident of Pasadena, MD, for over 70 years, creating a lasting legacy of love, family, and community service.

Betty was the devoted wife of the late Richard M. Beckett Sr., with whom she shared 28 wonderful years of marriage. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Howard and Thelma Willey.

She is survived by her loving children: Carol Currens, her daughter; Richard M. Beckett, her son; and Lisa Marie Berry, her daughter. Betty was a proud grandmother to nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, with two more great-great-grandchildren soon to arrive. Her family was the center of her world, and she imparted her wisdom, kindness, and strength to each generation.

For many years, Betty worked diligently as an accounting clerk in the accounting department at a furniture store in South Baltimore, where she retired after a long and dedicated career. Her work was always marked by professionalism and a keen attention to detail.

Betty was deeply involved with her church community at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Pasadena, where she found both spiritual fulfillment and lifelong friendships. Her faith was unwavering and a guiding light throughout her life.

An active past member of the Pasadena Senior Center, Betty enjoyed many passions and joys. She loved playing bingo and continued her lifelong love of sewing, creating beautiful pieces until just two years ago. One of her greatest pleasures was square dancing with her husband as part of the Friendship Squares, where she proudly sewed matching outfits for their dances. Her lively spirit and creative touch left a memorable mark on all who knew her.

A funeral service honoring Betty’s life will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Pasadena, MD, on Thursday, October 31st, 2024, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, officiated by Pastor Ben Umberger. Interment to follow at Glen Haven Memorial Park. Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating Betty’s incredible life and legacy.
