Barry Nichols Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Barry Lenroot Nichols on Tuesday, November 4th, 2025, in Pasadena, MD. Born on February 11th, 1941, in Superior, Wisconsin, Barry was a beloved husband, dedicated professional, and compassionate humanitarian.

Barry spent his early years in Superior, Wisconsin, and completed his schooling in Madison, Wisconsin. He began his career as a biology teacher for four years before embarking on a successful career as an Environmental Consultant. Throughout his distinguished career, Barry lent his expertise to a variety of companies, including NASA, where he made significant contributions to environmental preservation and sustainability.

Barry's passion for the environment was matched only by his love for the open waters. He was an avid sailor, often spending afternoons navigating the serene waters, finding peace and joy in the rhythm of the sea.

A resident of Pasadena, MD, Barry was known for his amazing intellect and quiet nature. His spirit of generosity and kindness touched everyone he met. Barry was always ready to lend a helping hand, and he would often stop and drop everything to assist others in need, asking nothing in return but the occasional batch of homemade chocolate chip cookies.

Barry's commitment to charity work was evident through his active participation in Habitat for Humanity at Camp Hope and his efforts to help rebuild a church in La Plata that had been destroyed by strong winds. His dedication to community improvement reflected his deep-seated belief in the power of compassion and selfless service.

In his personal life, Barry was a skilled craftsman, having built his own home—a testament to his hard work and dedication. He poured his heart and soul into his family and shared a loving life with his beloved wife, Alice Hastings.

Barry is preceded in death by his father, Irvine Lenroot Nichols, and his mother, Winnifred Nichols. He is survived by his devoted spouse, Alice Hastings, a son, a daughter, a brother, a sister, and six grandchildren, along with a wide circle of friends and extended family who will cherish his memory.

Barry's legacy of kindness, integrity, and tireless dedication to making the world a better place will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date (please check back for details) at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, 4760 Mountain Road, Pasadena, MD 21122, to celebrate Barry's remarkable life. Please join us in honoring a life well-lived and a man who made a profound difference in the lives of many.
