Anthony "Andy" Michael Malczewski, Sr., 93, a resident of Severna Park, passed away Sunday, June 13, 2021 at Heartlands Assisted Living in Severna Park, Maryland.
Andy was born July 5, 1927 in Baltimore, MD. He lived his early years in Baltimore and later moved to Pasadena, MD where he lived and raised his family. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He was a true patriot who enlisted in the Navy for the World War II and volunteered to re-enlist for the Korean War.
Andy was employed as a sheet-metal mechanic, working in the shipyard at the U.S. Coast Guard Yard in Curtis Bay, Maryland, from where he eventually retired. His patriotism was further recognized as serving his Country as both an enlisted serviceman in the Navy and a civilian employee of the U.S. Coast Guard Yard. Having always enjoyed the sport of football, Andy was a true Baltimore Colts fan. In later years (after the infamous move of his team), he did become an avid Baltimore Ravens fan.
Andy's days were spent tinkering in his workshop with every tool imaginable. Many hours were spent playing "Mr. Fix-It" to family and friends in the neighborhood. He loved to take things apart, see how they worked, and was self-taught in many ways.
Sundays were always set aside for his "Sunday drives" with his wife, Joann. Never venturing too far, they enjoyed many road trips from Maryland's Eastern Shore to the mountains of Western Maryland. Summer vacations were always spent "down the Ocean" in Ocean City, Maryland and crabbing on Stoney Creek in Riviera Beach. He is loved and will be missed.
Andy is preceded in death by his parents, George and Veronica Malczewski, wife of 61 years, Joann J. Malczewski, siblings Joseph Malczewski, James Malczewski, Stephen Malczewski, Frank Malczewski, William Malczewski, Catherine Sewell and Marie Havlicek. He is survived by his children Carolyn Hackmann (Carl) of Severna Park, MD; Anthony M. Malczewski, Jr. of Portland, Oregon; Mark A. Malczewski of Denton, MD; sister Agnes Malczewski of Baltimore, MD; grandchildren Gregory Hackmann (Nichole) of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina; Leah Hackmann Marks (Nick) of Severna Park, MD; Timothy Hackmann (Danijela) of Severna Park, MD; Amy Malczewski Sasser (William) of Baltimore, MD; Leesa Malczewski of Severn, MD; great grandchildren, Ayden and Lilliana Hackmann, Eric and Dean Marks, and Olivia and Jackson Hackmann.
