Yogi, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 27th, 2025. He was 82 years old. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Yogi spent his adult life in Annapolis, where he built an illustrious career and a loving family.
Yogi served the City of Annapolis for 30 years, from 1964-1994, 4 years as a Patrolman with the Police Department and 26+ years with the Fire Department, as a Fire Investigator for many years. He retired as a Captain in the Fire Marshal’s Office. His commitment to public service was paralleled by his passion for aviation. Yogi earned his private pilot’s license in 1992, went on to become a Flight Instructor in 1997 and a Commercial Pilot in 2003. He worked at the Bay Bridge Airport until the late 90’s and then the Easton Airport until 2004.
Yogi honorably served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, a testament to his lifelong dedication to service. He was an active member of several organizations, including the A.F. & A.M. / Lodge No. 89, the American Legion MD Post 0007, and the United States LST Association.
Beyond his professional and military achievements, Yogi was known for his love of cooking and his cherished Labrador dogs, with whom he spent many joyful moments.
Yogi is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Joan Ellen Baer; his son, Stephen Scott Baer; his daughter, Carole Walker; and his step-son, Ryan Millet. He also leaves behind five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of whom will deeply miss his wisdom, warmth, and humor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Bernard Baer Sr. and Ruth H. Baer.
Friends and family are invited to an evening visitation on Friday, August 1st, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Stallings Funeral Home in Pasadena, Maryland, to remember and celebrate Yogi's remarkable life.
